Snake catcher
St Marys

St Marys combines an established town centre and residential neighbourhoods with rail land, redevelopment and the large St Marys North–Dunheved industrial precinct, so home and workplace sightings need different access plans.

Before anyone gets too close

Town-centre homes and Dunheved industry are different calls

South of the industrial land, St Marys includes houses, units, schools, the rail corridor and a changing town centre. North St Marys and Dunheved add manufacturing, logistics, recycling, warehouses and drainage systems around Ropes Creek, South Creek and local riparian corridors. The first call should identify which side of that divide applies.

Calls from St Marys are coordinated through our Penrith operating base. For a home, workshop or industrial site, give the exact entrance and a safe contact point; current availability and travel time are confirmed when you call.

Before arranging a visit, read how our snake-removal service works, including the operator and licence details, property types served and availability limits. Our business registration references and photo credits distinguish business records from researched local background.

VERIFIED LOCAL DETAIL

Why St Marys needs its own field note

01

St Marys North–Dunheved is a major employment precinct

Council describes St Marys and North St Marys as its largest established industrial precinct, with manufacturing, recycling, freight and logistics activity. Give the authorised gate, company and exact work zone before a catcher approaches.

03

The town centre requires a separate crowd-control plan

A unit, school, shop or rail-side site needs a building, courtyard, platform-side boundary or rear-service entrance. Keep the public away and nominate one person with access instead of moving the snake through a busy area.

PET EMERGENCY CONTACTS

St Marys veterinary contacts

Keep these details separate from the snake-removal number. The catcher handles the snake; a veterinary team assesses the pet. If both are needed, make the veterinary call without waiting for capture.

Situations worth calling about
01

a snake in a garage, laundry, unit courtyard, school ground or rail-side property

02

movement near Ropes Creek, South Creek, a drainage channel or Dunheved Estate Reserve

03

a manufacturing, warehouse or logistics site where stock, machinery and truck routes must remain controlled

Keep people and pets back

At home, move people and pets behind a closed door and watch from glass. At work, isolate the specific bay or yard, divert mobile plant and nominate one site controller. Never use a broom, hose, pallet jack or forklift to move the snake or its cover.

Do not touch, trap, corner or try to kill the snake. Bring children and pets away and call a trained reptile handler.

What to look at later

Maintain garage, external-door and roller-door seals, keep waste and feed secure, raise long-term stock and preserve clear inspection lanes. Treat creek banks, drains and public reserve vegetation as no-entry areas after a sighting.

No property can be completely snake-proof. The practical aim is better visibility, fewer hiding places and less food for rodents, without harming native wildlife.

PET SAFETY / DETAILS CHECKED 28 AUGUST 2026

Where to ring about a pet

The first card is a practical clinic for the local area. The second card is a hospital that advertises 24-hour emergency care. Neither requires you to move closer to the snake or transport it.

Before travellingKeep the pet still and quietCall the veterinary teamLeave the snake where it is

Selection from the middle of St Marys cannot account for every road or open clinic. Confirm where the veterinary team wants you to go before starting the trip.

Independent contact information only. Snake Catcher Sydney Wide is not affiliated with these veterinary providers. In a life-threatening pet emergency, follow the veterinary team's instructions immediately.

The best way onto the site

Residents should give the dwelling, rear lane or shared-parking entrance. Businesses should provide the trading name, security gate, unit, loading dock and contact with keys, while keeping the arrival route outside the exclusion zone.

Let us know whether the snake is inside or outside, whether a gate or door is locked and whether animals are still on the property.

A calm description is enough

We will ask where the snake was last seen, what sort of property it is and the safest place to meet you. An existing photo can be useful, but nobody should move closer to take one. Once we know the situation, we can give you an honest indication of availability and travel time.

Local habitat and snake activity St Marys

Creek and drainage margins may suit red-bellied black snakes, while open rail, industrial and disturbed land may suit eastern brown snakes. These are St Marys-area habitat possibilities, not workplace or street-level records.

01 / Highly venomous

Eastern brown snake

May use open ground, grass margins, disturbed land and places where rodents are active.

Do not use this as an ID: Colour varies widely; a brown or grey snake cannot be identified safely by colour.

02 / Venomous

Red-bellied black snake

Often associated with wetter habitat such as creeks, drains, wetlands and dam margins.

Do not use this as an ID: The red or pink flank may be hidden from view, especially from above.

03 / Non-venomous

Diamond python

Can use mature trees, roof spaces, thick gardens, rockwork and sheltered structures.

Do not use this as an ID: Do not approach because a pattern appears familiar; large pythons can still defend themselves.

These are habitat-based possibilities for the wider district, not a claim that any species is common on a particular St Marys property. The Sydney snake identification guide explains the limits of visual identification.

IF A BITE MAY HAVE OCCURRED

Call 000 immediately. Keep the person still and calm, apply a pressure immobilisation bandage, and do not wash, cut or suck the bite. Follow the emergency operator and Healthdirect guidance ↗.

Common local questions

Answers for St Marys

Can a St Marys warehouse keep operating after a snake sighting?

Not through the affected bay, yard or travel route. Follow the site's safety plan, divert people and plant, leave stock unmoved and have one controller brief the catcher at the authorised entrance.

Do I need pest control or a snake catcher?

If you are searching for pest control or pest removal because you have found a snake, contact a licensed snake catcher directly. A pest-control business that does not provide licensed snake handling may need to refer your call, adding a step and potentially delaying arrangements. Some pest controllers also offer licensed snake catching; ask whether they can arrange an appropriately licensed handler. Keep people and pets away and call Snake Catcher Sydney Wide to confirm the fee, availability and estimated arrival.

Is the snake moved humanely?

The aim is safe capture and humane relocation in line with current NSW requirements. The snake should not be handled by an untrained person.

Can I make a St Marys property snake-proof?

No property can be made completely snake-proof. Maintain garage, external-door and roller-door seals, keep waste and feed secure, raise long-term stock and preserve clear inspection lanes. Treat creek banks, drains and public reserve vegetation as no-entry areas after a sighting.
