Leonay is compact, but its blocks are not all approached the same way. River Road and the lower river reserve feel very different from homes climbing towards the escarpment, and some properties have an upper street entrance with the sighting on a lower terrace. Say which level, boundary and access point are involved before anyone moves towards the snake.

River Road Reserve
Penrith City's riparian plan identifies the west-bank reserve running from near Lapstone Place towards the Great Western Highway. It is part of Leonay's real river setting and should not be entered to continue a search.

Keep people and pets back
Use a window, deck or upper terrace only if it keeps you well away. Do not descend steps, cross the golf-course edge or follow a snake towards River Road Reserve. If the view is lost, remember the last wall, tree, pool item or fence panel it passed.
Do not touch, trap, corner or try to kill the snake. Bring children and pets away and call a trained reptile handler.
What to look at later
Keep retaining-wall gaps, pool equipment, timber stacks and under-deck storage visible and orderly. Check door sweeps and garage seals, trim only within the maintained yard and leave the Nepean riparian corridor undisturbed.
No property can be completely snake-proof. The practical aim is better visibility, fewer hiding places and less food for rodents, without harming native wildlife.

The best way onto the site
Say whether the useful entrance is from the upper or lower street, whether the driveway is steep and whether the snake is above or below the house. Mention locked pool gates, shared side paths and any river-side boundary before the catcher arrives.

Leonay's river margin is a habitat cue for red-bellied black snakes, while wooded slopes, roof spaces and mature gardens can suit diamond pythons. Eastern brown snakes are also a wider western-Sydney possibility around open or disturbed ground. Never use the setting or colour as a field identification.
